Justice for Jaye Potter Mintz

Help Solve a Mother’s Murder

Date of Murder Feburary 23, 1987

Location: Leland, North Carolina

On the morning of February 23, 1987, in the small town of Leland, North Carolina, Lorene Potter stepped through the unlocked door of her daughter’s house and faced what no mother should ever have to see. Drawn to the bedroom by the sounds of a baby crying, Lorene discovered the body of her daughter, 23 year-old Beverly Jaye Potter Mintz, bound and brutally murdered. Jaye’s son, just shy of his second birthday, had witnessed the slaying. As Lorene swept him into her arms to call for help the child could only say “Mean man hurt Mommy. Mommy cry.” Such a scene is hard to imagine but the anguish felt on that day has haunted Lorene and the rest of Jaye’s extended family for over 30 years now. This is a cold case that demands answers.
